Marigold

Uniqueness: Traditional double orange marigold from Tamil Nadu smallholders; excellent for temple use, borders and companion planting to repel pests. Contains natural carotenoids and pest-repellent properties beneficial for vegetable beds.

How to grow:

- Best soil: well-drained fertile soil; tolerates poor soils if drainage is good. 

- Sunscreen: full sun for best and longest-lasting blooms (6–8 hours). 

- Watering: moderate watering; let topsoil dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. 

- Nutrients: light NPK feed after first bloom to sustain continuous flowering. 

- Companion plants: plant near tomato, brinjal or cucurbits to reduce nematodes and insect pests. 

- Care tips: deadhead spent blooms to increase flowering; thin seedlings for larger, fuller flowers.
